Oberthur Cash Protection products

In 1983, Oberthur Cash Protection (operating as Axytrans, part of Axytel, a company specializing in the development and production of credit cards and checks) invented the first intelligent banknote neutralization system to protect cash in transit using ink. The invention was created in collaboration with one of Axytrans' customers, the French cash transportation company VALTIS, which was looking for an alternative way to protect valuables during cash transportation.
A product called ATV (Axytrans Transport de Valeurs) was first used in 1990 by the Belgian Post for cash transactions on the road.
In 1991, French legislation was amended to allow the use of ATVs on an experimental basis, and the French company CIT VALTIS began using them to serve three regional banks.
In 1993, Axytrans was acquired by the François-Charles Oberthur Group.

In 2003, the company introduced its first intelligent banknote neutralization system to protect cash inside an ATM.
In 2007, the company acquired Fluiditi, part of the NCR group specializing in ATM cash protection, and changed its name to Oberthur Cash Protection.

In 2011, Oberthur Technologies' card systems and identification division was acquired by Advent International. The Cash Safe and Cash Printing Department has been renamed Oberthur Fiduciaire.
